Trombonist
Curtis Biggs is a doctoral candidate at Bowling Green State
University. Before studying at BGSU, Curtis was principal bass trombonist with
Symphony S.O.N.G. (Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation) based in Seoul,
South Korea. A major role of his position was also touring South Korea with the
Symphony S.O.N.G. Brass Quintet.
Before his
position with Symphony S.O.N.G., Curtis attended Yale University and Brigham
Young University. At Yale, he was chosen as the alternate for the Woolsey
Concerto Competition in 2015 playing the Rouse Trombone Concerto. He was also a
winner of the BYU Concerto Competition in 2012 and performed the 2nd
movement of the Rouse Concerto with the BYU Philharmonic. Curtis has also
placed in the Utah Chamber Music Competition, the MTNA Chamber Competition, and
the Sacramento Jazz Festival. He was also a recipient of the Ellen Battell
Stoeckel Fellowship at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Curtis was also a finalist in the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition in 2018.
As a Teaching
Assistant at Bowling Green State University, Curtis teaches private students, coaches
a brass quintet, and is a co-conductor of the BGSU Trombone Choir. He was also
a Teaching Artist in the Music in Schools Initiative in conjunction with Yale
University, and was an instructor in the Morse Summer Music Academy.
Together
with his wife Jackie, Curtis recently founded the Radium Piano Trombone Duo. The ensemble was formed to promote classical
music as a genre applicable today, and to produce and perform new works for
trombone and piano.
